Stan Walker has been announced as the first lead casting of the multi-million dollar international hip-hop film ‘Born To Dance’ set to shoot in New Zealand this October.
Stan is no stranger to international screens, having played the title role
in the 2013 hit feature ‘Mt Zion’ and was a judge on the hi TV show X Factor (New Zealand)
Stan is thrilled to have the opportunity to play the role of ‘Benjy’, one of the protagonist Tu’s close-knit group of friends from Papakura, in the film.
“I am very excited to be a part of the very first major dance film to come out of NZ” said Stan. “NZ is one of the biggest hip-hop dance nations and it will be awesome to get our story and our dancers showcased to an international audience."
‘Born to Dance’ is a coming of age tale told through the eyes of ‘Tu’, an ambitious young man from Auckland, who dreams of being a professional hip-hop dancer. It will be choreographed by NZ’s own international dance superstar Parris Goebel, while Tammy Davis will direct, following from his award winning short films ‘Ebony Society’ and ‘My Older Brother.’
Casting is still under-way for the supporting cast and other leads are due to be announced in the coming months. An international Hollywood starlet is tipped to play the lead female role.
From today, up and coming dancers are able to enter online to win a walk-on part in the film via NZ radio stations Flava and ZM. To be into win, dancers are encouraged to head to the Flava website or ZM website and upload a video of their best dance routine.
